The Karystian vineyards have a tradition that stretches back to antiquity.
The predominant variety of the area is the Savatiano vine - perhaps the best Savatiano in Greece. Other varieties, such as Roditis, Asirtiko, Malagousia, Grenache Blanc and Moschato offer excellent results either on their own or combined with the Savatiano variety.
The area also produces fine, classic, red wines from Agiorgitico, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache Rouge varieties. These are full-bodied wines, with a rich scent and volume, which are suitable for long-term ageing.
90% of the vineyards in Karystos are virtually organic due to the farming procedures (hardly any contamination from insects, fungi or bacteria because of the regular strong winds and the climate).
